No one ever said that you need to be daring to create your own curtain ideas. The windows in your home are yours and for you to design using your own taste whether it is classic, country, contemporary or even gothic or eccentric. Sure you can decorate your living room in order to please your guests but the rest of your house should be tailored to your own liking. You need to ask yourself what a curtain’s main purpose is. The biggest reason why people cover their glass windows is for privacy. Once you have that then the rest is up to you. You can use basic ideas that you can find in a magazine or you can put something together and invent your own.
Some of my own ideas are to use a few layers of sheer in different colors. You can get privacy with sheer material if you double up the layers. I prefer to have a layer of white under another color like black or pink. This way you have a nice two tone design that looks white from outside and matches your interior giving you soft lighting from the sun. You can tie back the outer layer when you are inside the room if you want more light. I also like to work a lot with faux silk and satin. For a kid’s room you can have four panels on one rod. The panels will have to be smaller than the standard size and make sure that they will fit on a particular window frame. Sometimes curtains can be very expensive but with creativity we can improvise. You can replicate the set of drapes, valances or panels of your dreams. Get the photo or make a drawing and go to someone who sews upholstery. They will tell you exactly what you need to bring and you can have your designer copycat the curtains at a fraction of the price.
When it comes to light materials your ideas can be unlimited. Think about the décor and colors of the walls and the furniture. If you have unique taste in decoration then just imagine that your windows are your canvas in which you can paint away your imagination by using fabric, material and different colors. Make a sketch of what you have in mind. You would be amazed at how impressive your own ideas and creativity can be once they have been tailored and installed on the window frame. Shop for the panels you need online so that you can look through hundreds of palettes until you find the exact color you are looking for. Don’t be afraid to use your own curtain ideas.
