Kids Curtains – The Children Should Have A Say

Let’s face it, today’s kids are not like the kids you and I grew up with. There is so much variety nowadays and kids curtains are not the exception. When I grew up the choices were fairly simple, there were spiderman curtains, smurfs curtains, cabbage patch kids curtains, star wars and a few more. Most of these came in a set that included bed sheets and pillow covers. Times have changed, and now designer bedrooms are available, and that means designer curtains for kids too. This is an option for some parents but most parents have a certain budget in mind. Irregardless of your budget as long as it is reasonable, you should be able to find the right curtains for kids room.

We have to keep in mind that a kids room is a dwelling, hangout and sanctuary for children. Designing it the way they like will make their bedroom so much more enjoyable and fun for them. After all we do want our kids to spend more time at home and in their rooms at night rather than the streets where they are exposed to elements that are beyond our control. With this in mind we have to keep their children style and tastes in mind. You kid might be into all black style and there is nothing wrong with that but nine times out of ten they grow out of it. If the kid wants a dark style curtains then by all means try to accommodate their taste.

Maybe your child wants curtains that are designed with a sports theme, perhaps their favorite team. This should be easy for you because you can find many choices for kids curtains that have sports teams on them. Little kids will always appreciate anything that has cartoon characters on it. Then you have the fashion conscious kids who not only know about all the colors but they also know what the latest and hottest trends are. Such kids will probably know more about what they want than you do. Listen to them and take the color and style they want into consideration. What most of the kids won’t know is the the quality of the material. You don’t want to get the most expensive fabric but at the same time you don’t want to get the cheapest. You can start out by choosing a fireproof fabric. This is extremely important. If your child is allergic to certain natural materials, maybe cotton or linen then consider alternatives.

You and your child should sit down in the child’s bedroom and simply look around discussing what might look best on the windows. It would be nice if you showed and explained to your kid the types of fabrics and designs. From there talk about if he or she wants a curtain that has patterns on them or not. You might be tempted to design their room in a certain style thinking that mommy or daddy knows best. This maybe what you might deem ideal but it is their room and the kids curtains in their room should be there because they had a say in the color and style. You can choose curtains for your kids by yourself or you can include them in the discussion. It might even be fun hearing them talk about the type of curtain style they want, or maybe not. It is a family matter and the little ones are a big if not the biggest part of the family.
