Curtain linings fall under three basic categories, lightweight, medium, and heavyweight. Lightweight linings are made from bancrease, which is made up of both polyester and cotton blends. These are the best for drapes that are already too heavy to begin with. For example, if you have suede window covers you just need something light to provide protection from the sun. This will add life to your curtains and improve its quality. Medium weight curtain lining are made from foam also known as Thermafoam. This is great if you want to provide insulation and enhance your curtains at the same time. Most curtains are made from cotton and linen material that can easily fade during the summertime. These linings will prevent that from happening. If you are looking for the heaviest lining then you should look at ones called Eclipse. They come in ivory and white colors so that your windows would look nice and uniform from the outside. You can opt for this, especially if you are looking for blackout curtains. This is the material you need if you want total darkness during the day. This heavy lining requires strong curtain hardware because when used with heavy drapes they will place a lot of pressure on the hardware you have on your walls. When choosing the color you make your choice based upon how it will look form outside. When your curtains are closed they will show, so choose which shade would look best with the style of your house.
